Mervat's "One Jacket Five Ways Challenge," #3 of 5: Sorta like Emma. But short.

This little number was modified as part of my participation in Wardrobe Refashion. Click here if you'd like to read about the subtle but very useful changes it underwent in order to become more wearable.

When I saw this babydoll top (sold as a dress, but I consider it a top) about a year ago, it reminded me of a maternity top that my mom made for herself when she was pregnant with me, and which now resides in my maternity box. Yeah, you read that correctly. I essentially have a maternity hope chest. Jeez, have my posts been sentimental lately, or what? The contents of said box consist mainly of adorable tops and tunics that I'm afraid make me look pregnant. I figure I might as well keep them in case one day I actually am pregnant.

Anyhow, I know this little top just barely tows the "is she pregnant?" line. But I love it so much that I wear it anyhow.

Earrings: street vendor in Argentina.
Necklace: pendant was great-grandma's; ribbon is from my stash.
Jacket: Loehman's.
Babydoll top: Body Central.
Half-slip: thrifted, ages ago.
Leggings: Mandee.
Shoes: Dansko.

  1. Oh my gah girl, you do not look even a tiny bit pregnant. You look great. And I love this. It's sweet but not over the top.

  2. I agree! And adding the jacket mitigates any concerns over phantom baby bumpage.

  5. Your dress is perfect and is a nice contrast with your black hair.

  6. Love how you toned down the cuteness with the dark legs and feet. The jacket is a great touch, too.

Sorry, I'm a sentimental softie too and can't wait for the day you post and tell us you actually need that maternity stuff. It's sweet that you have the hope chest.

  8. You remind me of Elizabeth in the British series of Pride and Prejudice. And you bear a slight resemblance to her with that top/dress esp. the way the bodice is structured. Beautiful.

I love the idea of the hope chest. When the time comes you will be so glad to have a variety of things without spending a fortune. Good luck on this side of things...when you are ready of course ;)
