Little Red Dress

This dress was another Chadwicks @ Jomar score. I think I paid about ten bucks for it. Very comfy, and well-worth the price.

I realized recently that I ought to be taking some close-up shots, because small details like jewelry are so hard to make out in the crummy pictures I've been eking out of my camera. So here's a close-up of this fake pearl jewelry set (there's also a matching bracelet) that I found at a Rite-Aid drugstore (talk about random!) when I was in grad school.

Headband: Kmart.
Dress: Chadwick's, overstock at Jomar.
Cardigan: Chadwick's (I'm beginning to feel like a walking advertisement).
Fake pearl earrings, necklace, and bracelet: Rite-Aid.
Thermal leggings: Wintersilks.
Boots: Dansko.

  3. Thank you and thanks for visiting, Lmac!

Thanks, Jane! Now if only I can figure out a way to wear it with something other than black...

  5. S: I'm just thinking how this kind of high contrast color combination looks good on you because of your coloring. I don't wear much red or black, but you look great in them. Imogen at Inside Out Style has a whole post about color contrast--I'd never thought of this concept before.

Anyway, re: your response to Lmac, have you thought about wearing your dress with gray?
Actually, I did in fact wear something red recently, and I wore it with brown of all things, and I liked it a lot. Kind of quirky.

  8. Sallymandy, I had never thought before of how high-contrast color works on me, but now that I think about it, I guess it makes sense - especially since I've started dying my hair a very dark (almost black) shade of brown (the natural color is a medium-dark brown). I do usually feel very good in high-contrast ensembles such as this. I had never before thought of why, but I'm totally seeing it now. I hadn't thought of wearing the dress with grey, but that's a great idea. Brown is probably the next accent I'll be pairing it with.

And I'm glad my comments on your memoir experiment were helpful, Sallymandy. I look forward to reading more of your "material" - perhaps on the blog, or perhaps in a book that gets published in a few years? :-)

Londyn, thanks for the compliment and thanks for visiting!

  9. I'm back Stephanie. I'd forgotten that I commented on this photo and was going to say AGAIN how great you look in the red and black.

I'd never thought about the contrast issue, either, but Imogen at Inside Out Style enlightened me. It makes sense.

Re: memoir. Your comments WERE helpful. In hindsight, though, last weekend I tried to write more of that stuff and realized I either don't want to revisit that "material" very far, or am not ready. It wasn't happy. I want to enjoy writing. Blogging is very rewarding, it turns out. But thank you for your support. It means a lot.
