I usually avoid beige, khaki, stone, and any other color (if you can even call them colors... I guess they're technically neutrals) that you might find in the breakfast cereal known as oatmeal. Because they make me feel blah. Not so with this dress. It's the cream-colored inset yoke that makes it work for me. And I bought it on clearance for $7.50 without even trying it on, while I was doing some shopping for a show.
And yes, in case you were wondering, that broach is a shiny replica of a Star Trek communicator. For years, I just kept it in my costume box. But I think it's really pretty, especially with the two different tones of metal. So, why not? Now that my status as a nerdy Star Trek fan is out in the open for all the internets to see, I can wear it proudly. And my students think it's funny.Speaking of Star Trek, I'm still hoping for advice on which of these nerdy Trek-themed t-shirts to buy (scroll down to end of post). I'm only allowing myself to get one, and it's so hard to decide...
Dress: Old Navy.
Broach: "Star Trek: The Experience" gift shop in Las Vegas.
Earrings: a little hole-in-the-wall shop, somewhere in Philly.
Cable-knit leggings: Mandee.
Boots: Appepazza.

Yes - this one definitely works for you! Would've love to see a colored clutch or broach.
ReplyDeleteYep, the next time I wear this, there will probably be more color involved. I doubt there will be a clutch featured, though... I'm a bit of a bore when it comes to purses. I use just one: black, and cute, but very functional. I confess it might be a bit mom-ish, as well. Maybe I should share pose with it one day.
ReplyDeleteGood heavens, I have that same Star Trek pin, bought at a convention years ago. I may just have to wear that thing proudly!
ReplyDeleteAnonymous: You can do it! Wear it proudly! As much of a Trekkie nerd as I am, I have never been to a Star Trek convention, can you believe it?
ReplyDeleteThe dress is WAY cute, I love that kind of style and sort of retro color-blocking. And the Star Trek accessory. Love it!
ReplyDeletethanks for your recent comments. xo
Love the pin. Am partial to the Picard > Kirk tee myself. lol. Picard is the hotness.
ReplyDeleteThe colour works so well on you, probably because you have the cream near your face. Love the quirky addition of the brooch!!
